Audit, accounting and financial advisory support for individuals and businesses navigating domestic and international financial decisions.
I am a Consultant and retired Partner/Director at Moore Oldershaw in Napier and a Director of Moore Markhams Financial Services. Originally from South Africa, I have built my career around helping clients see the full picture, whether that means identifying opportunities in their business, planning for the life they want after they step away, or managing the complexity that comes with operating across borders.
My work covers clients from sole operators through to large corporates and shareholders. I enjoy the detail. I like understanding how a business works, where the opportunities are, and what needs attention. My clients tell me they value the thoroughness, but also the fact that I explain things clearly and keep them involved in the thinking. I work across a wide range of industries, including agribusiness, horticulture, forestry, construction, manufacturing, transport, tourism and hospitality.
I have particular experience working with overseas clients to manage their tax and investment strategies in New Zealand. A significant part of my work involves unravelling the reporting standards that come with offshore interests and helping new citizens and migrants navigate New Zealand’s accounting and tax requirements. This cross-border expertise is where my audit role and my financial/tax advisory role naturally connect.
As a Director of Moore Markhams Financial Services, I lead the practice alongside Michelle Chen. I work directly with every client. There are no call centres and no intermediaries. My advisory work covers investment planning, international pension transfers, investor visa financial structuring, turnkey business establishment for international companies setting up in New Zealand, and outbound investment advisory for New Zealand businesses operating overseas.
I have spent time building relationships in China, Europe and the Middle East, travelling to these markets to develop the referral partnerships and cultural understanding that our international clients need. Through the Moore Global network, I coordinate with accounting and advisory firms in over 100 countries. When a client’s financial life crosses borders, I make sure they have connected, specialist support on both sides.
My financial planning work helps individuals and couples plan for retirement, protect their estates and build long-term wealth. I take time to understand each person’s situation and goals, and I communicate openly throughout the process. I believe good advice starts with good listening and that people make better decisions when they understand the reasoning behind the recommendations.
Outside work, I have been involved in guiding the Hawke’s Bay Club to open its traditionally male-dominated membership so that women, young people and families can also enjoy its facilities. I am also committed to supporting Napier’s art deco heritage. Both reflect something I feel strongly about: the places and institutions we belong to should be accessible to everyone.
