Moore Markhams: Supporting Alisha’s career during pandemic

Covid-19 pandemic constraints meant Alisha Kumaran only got to meet all her firm colleagues three months after starting with Moore Markhams Auckland. Yet despite this, she felt totally supported as she embarked on her accounting career.

Working part-time while she completed her B Comm majoring in accounting from Auckland University, Alisha worked in a ‘bubble’ that saw her working alternate weeks in the office and from home.

“Even in the Covid environment I got the best support,” says Alisha. Her ‘buddy’ was available through Microsoft Teams whenever Alisha had a query about her work while WFH, and others within her accounting team made themselves accessible to keep her learning and growing in her understanding.

"Having the opportunity to meet face-to-face every other week allowed me to make personal connections, so it wasn't difficult to reach out for support and clarification.

“Now that we’re all back in the office, it’s much more like a work environment. I’m really enjoying the buzz and energy.”

She’s also enjoying the team camaraderie both in and outside of work with team lunches furthering her appreciation of the support on offer.

Alisha will become full-time once her degree is completed, commencing work on her CA qualifications.
