New Associate, Sam Gowing and his clients welcomed

A pragmatic attitude and a broad professional network are two of the strengths Moore Markhams Otago’s newest Associate, Sam Gowing brings to benefit his clients and the firm.

Sam joined the Dunedin office in June and is delighted at how easily he and his clients have been integrated.

“There’s a really good vibe here and the team has been extremely welcoming,” Sam says. “I’ve been impressed at how well clients are looked after.”

“We’re pleased to have Sam join us to help meet the growing need we have from existing and new clients,” says director Charles Craw. “Sam brings his drive and enthusiasm that is a good fit with our team here. We also welcome his clients and look forward to getting to know them better in the years ahead.”

Sam has clocked up 20 years as an accountant in the Otago region. Starting off as an intern with a small Dunedin firm that was eventually merged with one of the Big 4, before devolving back to an independent locally owned firm. This has given him a taste for the different modes of firm operation, and it is the local independent that appeals.
“A firm like Moore Markhams Otago is more personable than a bigger firm,” Sam believes.

“The importance of good client interaction was impressed on me right at the outset of my career and it has held me in good stead. Building positive trustworthy relationships is what drives me.”

Many of Sam’s clients are in the property development and construction industry so he has a good understanding of the trades sector. He also has experience in insolvency and finds the specialist area of international tax interesting.

However, it is in general business advisory that Sam finds most enjoyment, helping clients succeed and thrive. He aims to look deep into issues to find successful solutions for clients. Where he sees there is value in doing so, he connects clients with other professionals in his network such as lawyers, bankers or other financiers.

Raised on a lifestyle block at Wylies Crossing, North Taieri before moving to Dunedin for his secondary years, Sam is married with two children. Outside of work he enjoys running, playing guitar and any pursuit that gets him outside and into nature.
