Bio
Stephen is a Chartered Accountant with over four decades of professional experience, and has been a partner/director since the commencement of the Vanburwray (“VBW”) accountancy practice when it was established in 1985.
He advises clients across a broad range of industries and business sizes and uses his business and taxation experience to support them in all their accounting, taxation and financial needs.
Stephen has a strong interest in supporting clients who are starting, acquiring, or growing a business, and is passionate about helping them navigate all the complexity with clarity and confidence. He is known for his pragmatic problem-solving ability, a confident decision maker for his various business clients across New Zealand and Overseas.
His particular area of expertise over the years has been helping non-resident contractors or their NZ subsidiary entities involved in the local Taranaki energy sector to navigate the relevant NZ taxation rules. He is also well versed in farming & agribusiness matters.
Stephen is deeply grateful to the loyal and dedicated team who have worked alongside him over many years and contributed to the ongoing success of the practice, with some team members having supported the team for more than 35 years, their commitment, expertise, and shared values have been fundamental to its growth. Stephen openly acknowledges that the success of the practice is a direct reflection of the people behind it.
In recognition of his service to the profession and the local community, Stephen was awarded Fellowship status by his peers and CAANZ in 2018
