Promoting from within

Over the past eight months, we have made several changes within our Markhams Otago team, proudly promoting from within to provide opportunities to move into different roles.

Recently, Tom Offen, who joined our accounting team four years ago as a graduate accountant, has accepted the role of team leader and is now managing his team of accountants. Tom works closely with a wide variety of small and medium-sized businesses and has strong technical knowledge of accountancy and taxation.

Katrina Hyslop joined the accounting team in February after completing her accounting degree at Otago Polytechnic and a short internship with the firm. As our office moved to working from home during the COVID-19 lockdown earlier this year, the first few months with us were not what she envisaged, and training remotely had its challenges. We’re pleased that Katrina showed commitment and resilience during that time and has become a valued member of our team.

One of our long-standing administrators, Melanie Ashton, is transitioning to an accountant role having almost completed her accounting technician studies at Otago Polytechnic. After 19 years in an admin position, Melanie is excited for the change and new career path.

Maureen Blackie also learned a new position while working from home earlier in the year. Maureen has been with the firm for several years in a payroll and administration position and moved into our tax administrator position in March.

With Maureen moving out of payroll, this created an opportunity for another administration team member, Gina Astbury to grow her skillset and take on the role of payroll administrator. Gina is enjoying assisting clients with their payroll.

Congratulations to all our team members.
