With the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements now part of our lives, we’d recommend that your keep your passport valid as a means of identification. Even if you’re not planning on travelling, having an official document with your photo is very important.
This is particularly so for older people who may no longer have a drivers’ license to use. If your elderly relative is in a rest home, it can be a real challenge to establish proof of identity without a passport or drivers’ license.
We’d also encourage you to establish a ‘RealMe’ identification, so you have this as an option to prove your identity online. This requires a passport photo and various documentation including a birth certificate.
