Markhams Young Viticulturist of 2010

August 2010.

Marlborough’s Stuart Dudley has taken out the Markhams Young Viticulturist of the Year at the national finals held in conjunction with the Romeo Bragato conference.

Runner up was Nick Paulin from Central Otago.

The best and brightest from the country’s wine regions lined up to do battle in both practical and theoretical situations.

Markhams Christchurch director, Graeme Rhodes helped judged a budgeting challenge during the day-long section, and then was on hand at the Romeo Bragato dinner to announce the winner, after the competitors presented speeches.

Markhams has been involved in this competition since its inception with sponsorship in Hawke’s Bay predominantly but this year, through its national sponsorship, in all regions of the competition.  We were the inaugural naming rights’ sponsor last year and in 2010 added to our contribution by donating advisory time to the $14,000 prize pool.

“We see this as a good opportunity to lend support at the ground floor by encouraging the professionalism of upcoming generation of viticulturists and industry leaders,” says Graeme Rhodes.
